Meet The Teacher

Hello! I’m the 3rd grade teacher at Wetmore. I am very excited about the new school year and look forward to meeting all the new students and their families.
I grew up In Kansas City, Kansas. I graduated from F.L. Schlagle High School in 1984. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Baker University in 1988. My teaching career began in 4th grade in Olathe, Kansas at Briarwood Elementary in 1988. My wife, Cheryl Schlagel Yingst, and I moved to Whiting in 1991. I taught 4th grade at Jackson Heights beginning in 1991. I also taught 6th grade language arts part time while serving as the administrative assistant to the principal in 2003-2004. After earning my Master's Degree in Education Administration from Washburn University in 2004 I served as Principal at Jackson Heights Grade School from 2004 –2007. This will be my fourth year at Wetmore.
My wife and I have 3 children. Our oldest son, Jacob, will be a senior in high school. Jason is our youngest son and will be a sophomore in high school. Our daughter Olivia will be in 4th grade this year. We are members of the North Jackson Jets 4-H club and members of the Whiting Methodist Church.
