Mr. Figgs was born in Emporia, Kansas on March 5, 1965, and grew up in Sabetha, where his father was SHS principal and his mother was a registered nurse. Graduating from Sabetha High in 1983, Mr. Figgs attended Baker University and was active in the language, music, and theatre departments. After being awarded a Baker degree in 1987, Mr. Figgs remained on campus to complete requirements for teacher certification.
Figgs began his career at Horton High School in Horton Kansas, teaching Freshman English and yearbook there for six years. He has worked at Sabetha High for ten years, and during this time his classes have included Junior English, Sophomore English, Freshman English, video production, and academic resource class. He also sponsors the Sabetha chapter of the Kansas Association for Youth, accompanies music students at contest, and judges at area forensics contests. He also serves on the district's professional development council.
Outside of school Mr. Figgs serves on the boards of the Hiawatha Area Arts and Theatre Society and the Kansas Silent Film Festival.
