Bio

November 18, 2011

I am Kylee Smith, the band director at Sabetha High School, Middle School, and Elementary School. I grew up in Maryville, MO, a town of about 10,000 in the northwest corner of Missouri. I graduated from Maryville High School (Home of the Spoofhounds) in 2004, before attending Northwest Missouri State University. "Once A Bearcat, Always A Bearcat!" While at Northwest, I participated in the Bearcat Marching Band, Wind Symphony, and the Jazz Band. I was also in Kappa Kappa Psi (a national honorary fraternity for college band members) and C-MENC. Just prior to graduation, I student taught at Park Hill High School and Congress Middle School in Kansas City, MO. After student teaching, I graduated from Northwest with a Bachelor's in Instrumental Music Education in 2009. I was hired here at Sabetha shortly after graduation.

In Sabetha, I teach 5th grade Band, 6th grade Band, 7th grade Band, 8th grade Band, and High School Marching and Concert Bands. I also accompany the annual High School Musical, give piano lessons, and accompany the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Choir in Falls City, NE.

Since being in Sabetha, the High School band has received a 1 (superior) rating in 2011, a 1 rating at the Hiawatha Halloween Parade in 2011, and has performed in numerous local parades, events, games, and concerts. I have also served as a Trumpet Judge for the Kansas City (MO) Metro Junior High All-District Band (Nov. 2010), a clinician and guest at Ralph Chandler Middle School (Greenville, SC, Oct. 2011), and worked as an accompanist/counselor/trumpet section leader at the NWMSU Summer Music Camp (2005-2011).

Music is a passion of mine, especially instrumental music. It is my desire to spread that love of music to whoever is willing to accept it.
