Virginia Sylvester

3rd Grade

October 13, 2006

Welcome to my web page!  Let me share some information with you about myself and my teaching career.

I was born and raised on a farm in Northwest Missouri near the town of Tarkio.  I attended all grades and graduated from the Tarkio School System.  Following high school graduation, I attended and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Missouri.  Degrees received from that university include a Bachelor's and Master's of Science Degrees in Elementary Education.

I began my teaching career at Sabetha Elementary as a fourth grade teacher.  Following several years of experience, I transferred grade levels to third grade.  Beside classroom responsibilities, I presently serve as the Professional Development Council committee member that represents Sabetha Elementary.  In addition, I represent my grade level on the Building Committee. Previously, I have served as our building's QPA Math Chair.  Other previous committee responsibilities include Site Council and the Student Improvement Team.  In the year of 2003, I represented my building as the "Kansas Teacher of the Year" nominee.

At home, I am a farm wife, mother, and grandmother.  During the summer, on our grain and livestock farm, I assist my husband with simple farming responsibilities.  Our three daughters, Christie, Lisa, and Jo have blessed us with nine grandchildren which includes six grandsons and three granddaughters.  During my free time, I enjoy the companionship of my German Shepherd dog, Molly, as well as cooking, reading, and sewing.
