I have been a teacher at Bern Schools since 1992, teaching all the sciences: Earth, Life, Physical Sciences as well as Biology ! & 2, Chemistry 1 &2, Principles of Technology. Teaching keeps me pretty busy, but when I do have free time I like to read, work out, bike ride and run, and work in my garden. Visiting with friends and family is a high priority.
Bern Schools and the community is a wonderful place to work because it seems like one big family. We are all in this (education) together. The support and cooperation by students, parents, and the rest of the community are unparalleled- makes me wonder how teachers in other places who might not have this level of support manage their job. It really makes me appreciate what we have going here in our small community. If I were to pass on to my students one small insight I have gained it would be this: take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way because those moments don't last forever. Be involved & try out as many of our activities as possible and make the most of every minute of the school year--they may seem endless but they're not!
