FFA

Mrs. Kristin Strathman (Advisor)

What does FFA stand for?

It used to stand for Future Farmers of America but that was dropped in 1988 to reflect the other available careers in Agriculture.

What type of activities do you do in FFA?

  • C.D.E. (Career Development Events)-contest to prepare students using career skills.
  • Leadership Events
  • Public Speaking
  • Parliamentary Procedures
  • Camp & Conferences – students met new people, set goals, work with building teams
  • Community Activities- activities to help build & promote the community
  • Fruit sales
  • Nation & State Conventions
  • Elementary Presentations
  • Host Farm Safety Day
  • Local School Events –FFA Fun Night, USD 113 Bowling Party

What made you want to sponsor FFA club?

FFA is not just an after school organization or club. It is completely tied to the Ag Program with activities and events going all year long. For me, the decision to be involved with it was mainly because I wanted to be involved in Ag & FFA throughout my life.

How many students do you have in FFA this year?

14 students

What do you think the field trips do for your students?

In my program I feel the field trips are essential. They give students the opportunity to see and learn things not available to them every day. The face of Agriculture is constantly changing and evolving.  Without being able to experience some of that first hand, students will not be prepared for future careers in Agriculture. In my Program, each class will get the opportunity to take a whole day to go on an industry tour.

How passionate would you say you are about FFA?

I am very passionate about FFA. I truly believe that FFA has had many contributions to the person I am today. Several of my best friends and I actually met while I was in FFA in high school. In some form, I have been involved with FFA since my freshman year in high school.. There is something for everyone in FFA. I am excited to share that with anyone and hope that FFA can have a positive impact for everyone.
