I grew up in South Elgin, which is a suburb of Chicago. My family moved to Sabetha when I was in the 7th grade, and I graduated from Sabetha High School in 2006. The four years I spent at Kansas State University bring back wonderful memories, including student teaching at Junction City High School. I graduated from K-State in May of 2010 with a degree in Secondary Education and areas of concentration in Spanish and English as a Second Language. During college, I had several opportunities to study abroad and through the study abroad program spent time in Morelia, México, for six weeks as well as in Guatemala City, Guatemala, for two weeks. I also spent a summer in Magdalena, México, as summer staff at a children’s home where we taught summer school, facilitated a reading program, and did various activities with and for the children who live there. I love traveling, Spanish, and learning about other cultures. I also enjoy reading, taking walks, and spending time with my husband Brian, whom I married in July of 2010, and our families. Many special memories of mine are associated with the Spanish language, and I am excited to be able to share, encourage, and cultivate an appreciation for other languages and cultures in my students!
Advice I would give the student body:
1. Work hard! Personal effort = personal success.
2. Build good habits. The choices you make now are shaping your future.
3. Make it real! Relate what you're learning to something you care about or are already familiar with. Also, think about how you could use what you are learning in your future.
