Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s)

Allow me the opportunity to introduce myself and welcome your student to my class at Axtell High School.  I graduated from Kansas State University in December 2007 with a degree in secondary education-business.  In December 2009, I received my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Peru State College.  Currently, I am pursuing a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Kansas State University.  My wife, Leah, and I reside in Seneca with our twin four year old boys, Camden and Casen.  We are expecting our third child at the end of December.

After graduation in 2007, I taught the spring semester at Manhattan High School.  While there, I taught a variety of courses including computer programming and document processing.  In August 2008, I began teaching at Bern High School and recently completed my third year there.  At Bern, I had the opportunity to teach many different courses and coach at the junior high and high school levels.  I am very excited for the many opportunities that Axtell High School presents.

I enjoy teaching and try my best to give your student every opportunity to learn.  I do expect your student to be responsible for their own learning and effort they put into my courses.  They are young adults and need to understand that there are times in which they will have to work hard to understand information and grasp concepts.  In the business department, I encourage your student to approach learning with a respectful, resourceful, and positive attitude.  Courses in this department are designed to prepare students to learn about computer and communication skills they might need in employment; at home; or in future education.

I have always felt that parents/guardians are an important part of the education of their student at all levels.  Studies have shown that parental involvement is a key factor in academic success.  Please remember to check your students’ grades on Power School on a regular basis.  Grades will be updated weekly.  Also, check our school’s website frequently as important dates and reminders will be posted in order to keep the public informed about events happening at our school.

I look forward to a successful academic year.  Please note that I will arrive most mornings by 7:40 a.m. and stay most afternoons until 3:30 p.m.  Feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail at your convenience.  I look forward to getting to know your student!  Thank you in advance for all of your support!

Sincerely

Lucus Dalinghaus
