WHS Receives Governor's Achievement Award

            Wetmore High School has been awarded the second annual Governor’s Achievement Award. This prestigious award honors top schools in the state of Kansas.           

            According to the Kansas Department of Education, the school must have achieved the Standard of Excellence in both reading and mathematics for 2008.The school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress in both reading and mathematics and have an exceptional graduation rate. To qualify, the school must also have been among schools in the top 5% in both reading and mathematics on the 2008 state assessments.

            Only eighteen high schools in the state of Kansas have met these high standards.

            “Since I have been the principal at Wetmore I have been telling everyone what great students and teachers we have,” says WHS principal David Schmitz, “I now have proof to support my beliefs. Congratulations to everyone involved in this accomplishment.”

            There will be short presentation of the Governor’s Achievement plaque at the first high school game on December 5th.
